Paul was born to godly parents, Gene and Betty Lloyd, who had him in church every time the doors were opened, nine months before he was born. Gene was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and led the music when his church was without a Minister of Music. Betty also taught Sunday School and is very active in numerous ministries of her church including women’s ministries and children church. She also served as secretary of her home church for many years.
Paul’s dad was employed by the J. C. Penney Company, which necessitated numerous family moves as he rose through the ranks to become store manager. Consequently, while Paul was still living with his parents, he lived in Rome, Georgia, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Shelby, North Carolina, Columbus, Georgia, Albany, Georgia, Moultrie, Georgia, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Valdosta, Georgia and Knoxville, Tennessee. He then attended seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. He was called to his first church in West Point, Mississippi in 1983. Paul and his family have lived in Kingston since 1987.
Paul majored in Zoology at the University of Tennessee and earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He received his seminary training at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree.
Paul has been in the ministry for more than 30 years, serving as the Assistant to the Pastor and pastor of churches in Mississippi and Tennessee.
Paul is married to the former Linda Lee Carlson. They have three sons who are married and have given them seven grandchildren.
Paul’s hobbies include flying, stained glass fabrication and riding motorcycles.
